ALTOONA, Pa. -- This seemed inevitable with Micah Shrewsberry departing, but it's still another punch in the gut for the Penn State basketball program.
March madness has turned into March sadness for the Nittany Lions.
Late Thursday night, news broke that 4-star recruit Carey Booth, a top 100 prospect in the nation, would be seeking a release from his Penn State commitment. He committed to the Lions in August and signed his letter of intent in November.
Carey is the son of former Penn State standout Calvin Booth, who's now general manager of the Denver Nuggets.

Carey Booth is a 6-foot-9, 190-pound power forward from Brewster Academy in New Hampshire. He's rated as the No. 73 prospect in the country by 247Sports.
Penn State hasn't landed many top 100 basketball recruits in its history, so losing one is a tough blow. But with Shrewsberry leaving for Notre Dame and the program's future up in the air, the decision by Booth isn't a surprise.
Penn State also will be losing 3-star prospect Braeden Shrewsberry, Micah's son, who is rated as the No. 183 prospect in the country. He played at State College Area High School and is expected to follow his father to Notre Dame, although that hasn't been made official yet.
