RICHMOND, Va. -- Last week’s Cartoon Canon took a look back at the 2001 opening of PNC Park. This week, we go well over a century into the past to revisit the construction of the building that hosted more Pirates games than any other in history, the great Forbes Field.

The park, widely considered the finest of its day, was built in just over four months, a feat that seems amazing by 21st century standards.

I’ll always be a little sad that I never got to see it in person!
