Penn State picked up its biggest commitment yet for the class of 2024 late Friday night by landing the No. 1 player in Pennsylvania.

Quinton Martin, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound running back/athlete from Belle Vernon Area High School, announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions. He was first offered by the program two years ago on April 1, 2021 and was a frequent visitor to Penn State, reportedly making nine trips there.

Martin not only is the top player in PA, he's also the No. 3 athlete in the nation and No. 30 overall prospect. He's a 4-star recruit who also had offers from Pitt, Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Miami and Florida State, among others.

The 247Sports scouting report on Martin says he "has verified size with room for frame growth depending on college position. Offers position versatility as running back, safety or linebacker depending on physical development. Multi-sport profile includes basketball in which he averaged 19 points and 10 rebounds per game."

“They’re recruiting me 100 percent as a running back,” Martin told BlueWhite Illustrated. “But I also have no doubt that once I get up there and start practicing, they’re going to move me around and be diverse with me. They’re going to give me a little bit on defense, a little bit on offense. I’m hoping that happens, but I’m OK with what happens either way. I’m just all for just doing whatever I need to do to help the team and get on the field.”

Martin is the seventh commit for the Lions' class of 2024, and by far the highest rated so far. He's the only commit in the top 150 by 247Sports.

With this commitment, Penn State jumped into the top 10 of the national rankings and now sits at No. 9. Michigan is No. 2 and Ohio State No. 4 in the rankings.

As for Pennsylvania, the Lions now have commitments from three of the top five players in the state and four of the top 10 for 2024. Others in the top 10:

• OL Cooper Cousins from McDowell High School in Erie is No. 3.

• LB Anthony Speca from Pittsburgh Central Catholic is No. 5.

• CB Kenneth Woseley from Imhotep Institute in Philadelphia is No. 10.
