Tanner Muse's career got off to a rough start after he was a third-round draft pick in 2020, as he suffered a foot injury that cost him an entire year.
The linebacker has spent the past couple of years trying to make his mark, and while that hasn't happened on defense, he has been a reliable special teams player.
The Steelers announced Monday they have signed Muse, and we'll see if he can begin to make an impact on defense with the club. And if not, he still could be heavily involved on special teams.
The 26-year-old Muse played his college ball at Clemson, where he was a safety and won two national championships (2016, '18). He was a third-team All-American his final season in 2019.
The Raiders drafted him as a linebacker in the third round (100th overall) in 2020, but he never played for them during the regular season. He missed his first year and was released by the club prior to the start of the 2021 season.
Muse caught on with the Seattle Seahawks and appeared in six games in 2021. He then played all 17 games, making one start, for the Seahawks this past season. He finished with 16 tackles (11 solo).
Muse played a lot of special teams for Seattle, appearing in more than 70 percent of snaps, so he has been on the field a good bit. Just not as a pure defensive player.
