Omar Khan and the Steelers have been busy with the draft over the past three days. But, they found time to add another free agent to the mix on defense.
The Steelers on Tuesday officially announced the signing cornerback Chandon Sullivan to a one-year contract. The original announcement Sullivan would be heading to the Steelers came from a tweet by his agency, Katz Brothers Sports, on Saturday. The financial terms of the deal were not released by the team.
Sullivan, 26, signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia State in 2018. After spending his rookie season in Philadelphia, Sullivan played three years in Green Bay, then played the 2022 season with the Vikings. Over his five-year career, Sullivan has played in 71 games, starting 31, and compiled 169 tackles, five interceptions, 23 passes defended and one touchdown.
Sullivan has played the vast majority of his career in the slot, logging almost 2,200 out of nearly 3,000 total career snaps. He's also spent a decent amount of time playing in the box.
Chris' take: This is a depth move. Nothing more. Adding Joey Porter Jr. in the draft gives the Steelers more length and depth on the outside. And, despite the Steelers' plan to move Patrick Peterson around on defense, the only true slot cornerback on the roster is Arthur Maulet. Adding another player to the mix fits what Khan and the Steelers have done all offseason: Adding competition to just about every spot on the roster.
