Each week, our football staff at DK Pittsburgh Sports predicts the Steelers' result, along with sharing a few related thoughts.
For a full preview of the matchup with the Browns, check out my breakdown.
Chris Halicke (0-1): On paper, the Steelers should lose. Missing Diontae Johnson and Cam Heyward for multiple weeks is a huge blow. They're probably better equipped to handle those type of losses than they were last year, but there's a lot of unproven talent trying to be the next man up in both instances. That's scary, especially facing a formidable opponent. However, I'm fully relying on Mike Tomlin's ability to rally his team for a big game. They know they can't fall into an 0-2 hole, especially with the lofty goals this team has. Fortunately, the Steelers' strength on offense matches up well with where the Browns are weakest: The middle of their defense, really, on all three levels. Pound the rock. Commit to it. The offense will be better because of it, and it keeps Nick Chubb on the sideline. Steelers, 23-21
Corey Crisan (1-0): It’s almost hard to project a Steelers win here given the variables. No Diontae. No Heyward. Chubb is as good as it gets and, if the defense doesn’t shore up its issues from last week, could be in line for another Christian McCaffrey-like day. I expect better from the Steelers' offense, but how much better? Browns, 24-14
Matt Williamson (0-1): I fully understand Tomlin's dominance over the Browns as well as the Steelers being incredible at home on Monday nights. And I am also not real impressed with Deshaun Watson. That being said, the Browns win a close, low-scoring game based on an aggressive defense that should rush the passer well, and on the back of Chubb, the NFL's best ball carrier. Missing Heyward is a huge deal for this matchup, as is being without Johnson, as Cleveland will surely again play a ton of man to man coverage and Johnson is the Steelers' best at beating man coverage. Browns, 17-16
Ramon Foster (0-1): Monday night magic. Prime time game. Must respond to a team like this. I see Keeanu Benton having a big day. I see DeMarvin Leal showing up. I need more from him. If they’re paying attention to T.J. Watt, DeMarvin must free and get home. Steelers, 20-18
