RICHMOND, Va. -- I can't recall what other gifts I received for Christmas in 1989 (Michael Keaton's Batman on VHS, quite possibly?), but by far my favorite present was provided by this spirited squad of Steelers!
Against all probability, after being throttled 51-0 and 42-10 by the Browns and Bengals respectively to start the season 0-2, this plucky group won four of their final five games, then upset the division rival Oilers in the wild card game. It was a shocking, unlikely and thrilling run after a half decade of bleak futility, and I'm sure I wasn't the only fan whose passion for the team was jumpstarted by the result!
