Minor-league report: Chandler allows five runs in the first inning ... without giving up a hit taken in Downtown (Pirates)

A look at Fridayโ€™s minor-league action within the Pirates' system ...

INDIANAPOLIS (18-21) lost to Toledo, 8-3. Andres Alvarez had an RBI single in the second and Canaan Smith-Njigba hit a two-run triple in the third for the Indians' scoring. Smith-Njigba's RBI knock tied the game at 3, but Toledo scored one run in every inning except the sixth from that point forward.

Toledo knocked Indianapolis pitching for 14 hits, six for extra bases. Jace Jung and Akil Baddoo hit solo home runs.

ALTOONA (9-28) lost at Akron, 6-3. Bubba Chandler did not make it out of the first inning of his start despite not allowing a hit. Akron scored six runs in the opening frame, and five were charged to Chandler in two-thirds of an inning of work. He walked five and induced two outs before being pulled for Justin Meis. 

Meis allowed a grand slam to Dayan Frias to give Akron a 6-0 lead. Meis was charged with Frias' run.

Tsung-Che Cheng and Brenden Dixon each hit solo home runs for the Curve.

GREENSBORO (22-14) was postponed at Hickory because of rain. The teams will play a double header of seven-inning games Saturday beginning at 5 p.m.

BRADENTON (17-20) lost at Tampa, 5-2. Eddy Rodriguez and Axiel Plaz hit solo homers for the Marauders. The team struck out 11 times, drew one walk and went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position.

Marauders starter Michael Kennedy struck out seven but allowed two runs on five hits with two walks in five innings. Reliever Tyler Kennedy walked four and allowed two runs without giving up a hit in two-thirds of an inning.
