Minor-league report: German continues to struggle, Altoona loses late lead taken in Downtown (Pirates)

A look at Friday’s minor-league action within the Pirates' system ...

INDIANAPOLIS (24-29) lost to Omaha, 4-1. Domingo German continued to struggle as he allowed three runs on three hits with five walks issued in five innings. A saving grace to the outing is he struck out eight hitters.

In four starts with Indianapolis and Bradenton, German is 0-2 with a 5.59 ERA in 19 1/3 innings. He has struck out 20 and walked 14 and opponents are batting .253 off of him.

Matt Gorski had Indianapolis' only two extra-base hits. He doubled and hit his 10th home run of the season in the third inning.

Indianapolis was 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and stranded eight base runners.

ALTOONA (16-33) lost to Portland, 8-6 in 10 innings. Joe Perez hit a grand slam as the Curve scored six runs in the eighth inning to take a 6-3 lead, but Portland scored three in the top of the ninth off of Justin Meis to force extra innings and scored twice in the tenth off of J.C. Flowers.

Carter Bins went back-to-back with Perez in the eighth on a solo homer. Braxton Ashcraft allowed one run on three hits while walking one and striking out seven in six innings. He threw 84 pitches and 59 for strikes.

GREENSBORO (29-20) lost at Asheville, 3-2The Grasshoppers scored twice in the ninth on Mitch Jebb's single and a two-out Termarr Johnson groundout, but P.J. Hilson lined out with Jebb stranded on second base to end the game.

Charles McAdoo went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. In his last four games, McAdoo is 10-for-18 (.556 average) with three doubles and four RBIs. 

Patrick Reilly, a fifth-round pick of the Pirates last year, allowed two runs on two hits while walking four and striking out six over five innings. He is fourth in the South Atlantic League with 57 strikeouts.

BRADENTON (21-27) lost at Fort Myers, 8-2Three of Fort Myers' runs were unearned as the Marauders committed two errors in the field. 

Marauders pitching allowed six hits and issued seven walks. Starter Carlson Reeda fourth-round pick last year, allowed just two hits but issued five walks and allowed four runs -- three earned -- across four innings.

Omar Alfonzo had a two-run double in the fifth for Bradenton. Eddy Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.
