RICHMOND, Va. -- When news broke early last week that, after a thorough review of statistical and historical data, Josh Gibson would become Major League Baseball's all-time batting leader, I couldn't help but think of this strip. They're insisting they're correcting a longtime oversight, and it's difficult to argue that. It's a little jarring, sure ... but also well-deserved.

If you want to be angry about it, get mad at Kennesaw Mountain Landis, or the team owners of the day, or anyone else who conspired to keep these phenomenal players out of the national pastime ... but have no antipathy for Gibson, who only did his very best every time he stepped into the batter's box, and who is finally, formally recognized for it.
