ST. LOUIS -- Two days after designating him for assignment, the Pirates have traded left-handed pitcher Jose Hernandez to the Dodgers in exchange for cash considerations.

Hernandez was DFA'd on Tuesday to make room on the 40-man roster for Dennis Santana, who was claimed off waivers from the Yankees. Santana made his team debut against the Cardinals Thursday.

Hernandez, a 2022 Rule 5 Draft selection from the Dodgers, appeared in seven games for the Pirates this season, allowing two runs on five hits with four walks and four strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. Last season, he made 50 appearances out of the bullpen, sporting a 4.97 ERA and 1.36 WHIP while limiting opposing hitters to a .239 batting average. He registered 62 strikeouts and 22 walks in 50 2/3 innings.
