A total of 10 programs as part of the Duquesne University Department of Athletics earned a perfect score of 1,000 for the 2024-25 academic year as the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) released its latest multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) report.
Earning a perfect APR score of 1,000 for the 2024-25 academic year for the Dukes include the men's basketball, cross country, tennis and track & field programs as well as women's basketball, bowling, lacrosse, soccer, swimming & diving and volleyball teams. In all, 15 Duquesne athletic programs produced an APR of 974 or better in 2024-25.
In addition, Duquesne posted a multi-year average APR of 990, four points above the national average and establishing a new record for the Department of Athletics. Last year, the Dukes earned a multi-year rate of 989, which matched the all-time best mark originally established in 2020 and matched in both 2023 and 2024. The NCAA celebrates 22 year of Division I academic success, and the scores include data from the 2021-22 through the 2024-25 academic years.
Posting perfect multi-year APR scores of 1,000 for the Dukes from 2021 to 2025 is men's cross country and tennis as well as women's bowling. It marks the eighth consecutive year that the Duquesne bowling program has recorded a perfect multi-year rate. Each of the 16 varsity sports for the Dukes earned a multi-year rate of 971 or better, up from 960 a year ago. Included among the top performers with men's cross country and tennis and bowling is women's soccer and track & field with 996 each, women's swimming and diving (993), women's cross country (992), men's track & field (991) and women's lacrosse (990).
Implemented in 2003 as part of an ambitious academic reform effort in NCAA Division I, the APR holds institutions accountable for the academic progress of their student-athletes through a team-based metric that accounts for eligibility and retention of each student-athlete for each academic term. The APR includes both retention at an institution and academic eligibility in its calculation.
The success for Duquesne in the latest APR continues a trend of excellence, as in November of 2025 the department established a school record for Graduation Success Rate (GSR) with 94 percent of student-athletes graduating within a six-year window after enrolling as freshmen in 2018. It marked the second consecutive year the Dukes established a department standard for GSR.
In the latest multi-year APR report from the NCAA, women's indoor and outdoor track & field are scored as one program, while DU's third-year triathlon program as well as its women's acrobatic and tumbling and women's golf programs, which began competition during the 2024-25 academic year, are not included.
