The Brewers announced Thursday that Quinn Priester will have surgery to repair Thoracic Outlet Syndrome — nerve compression in the armpit and rib area.
Priester, 25, blossomed into key piece of the Brewers rotation last season, going 13-3, with a 3.32 ERA and 1.239 WHIP. He exhibited TOS symptoms in spring and was shut down, exploring and exhausting non-surgical options until deciding Wednesday that thoracic outlet decompression was the best option.
Recovery time is six to 10 months following a successful surgery, though not all players are able to return to action.
Priester was the Pirates' first-round pick in 2019. He made 20 starts over two seasons for Pittsburgh when he was traded to the Red Sox in 2024 for Nick Yorke.
My take: Best to the young man. Fingers-crossed it's a successful outcome.
