University of Colorado quarterback Dominiq Ponder died in a single-car accident at approximately 3:00 a.m. Sunday in Boulder County, Co. He was 23.
Police say Ponder, a redshirt sophomore, lost control of his Tesla Model 3, struck a guard rail, a electrical-line pole, then rolled down an embankment, where the car caught fire. Ponder was pronounced dead at the scene.
Head coach Deion Sanders posted on X, "Dom was one of my favorites! He was Loved, Respected & a Born Leader. Let's pray for all that knew him & had the opportunity to be in his presence. Lord you're receiving a good 1."
Messages of condolence came from the Big 12, the Buffaloes athletic department, offensive coordinator Brennan Marion, fellow CU quarterback Colton Allen and numerous other teammates.
My take: A tragedy, even worse for one so young. Rest In Peace.
