The Sabres had an opportunity to advance to the second round of the playoffs fro the first time since 2007, leading the Bruins three games to one, and in front of a frenzied home crowd at KeyBank Center.
The Bruins did not go gently. Tied 1-1, the game went to overtime, and the Sabres were putting serious pressure on the Bruins in the offensive end, but Hampus Lindholm got possession and sprang David Pastrnak on a breakaway, and Pastrnak undressed goaltender Alex Lyon to send the Bruins back to Boston for Game 6.
My take: Jeremy Swayman was as much responsible as Pastrnak, making several save (a couple seen above) that were Grade A chances that could have ended the series. Sabres looked a bit tentative through the first couple periods — a lot of pressure on those players, many of whom werei youth hockey the last time the franchise won a playoff series.
