Bills general manager Brandon Beane said Tuesday that receiver Keon Coleman will "have every chance" to make the team this season despite "off the field issues" and "maturity" being cited as reasons he took a step backward in 2025.
During a January press conference announcing the firing of head coach Sean McDermott, owner Terry Pegula announced head coachMcDermott and his staff pushed to sign Coleman with the first pick of the second round in 2024, against Beane's objections, with Beane relenting.
Coleman had 38 catches for 404 yards and four touchdowns in 13 games in 2025, but was benched and suspended by the Bills for several games as a consequence for being consistently late to team and position-group meetings.
My take: Kind of a shock, but I'm not sold on Beane being serious. A week later, Beane contradicted Pegula, saying he wanted to take Coleman 33rd overall, but he was trying to save locker-room credibility. I'd assume they'll look to trade Coleman for a mid- to late-round pick. I'd be shocked if his agent isn't pursuing that after being the only player called out in that presser, and by the owner no less. Of course, he might be telling his client to make nice and show up on time, to make himself more attractive to other teams. He's still under Bills control for 2026 and 2027. The Bills need receivers and Coleman is talented, but I'd expect a couple free-agent signings to push him out the door.
