With two games remaining in the regular season, Aaron Rodgers is uncertain about his future with the Jets. Appearing on "The Pat McAfee Show," the four-time league MVP said once again that he would be willing to remain with the Jets, but admitted it isn't his decision — the Jets have a $37 million player (roster bonus and salary) option for 2025, none of it guaranteed.
Rodgers said he proved his commitment to the Jets by taking a major salary cut this season and restructuring his deal to give the jets the option for next season.
Rodgers is having a good season statistically, throwing for 3,511 yards, 24 touchdowns and just 8 interceptions. Over the last eight games, he's been exceptional, with 14 touchdowns and one interception, but the team has not gotten results, The team is 4-11 after starting the season 2-1. Head coach Robert Saleh was terminated with the team 2-3, but only one game out of first place.
Saleh clearly was not the problem and Rodgers was a factor in his firing. The Jets ownership is terrible. Woody Johnson is impatient and meddlesome. Rodgers has had a tumultuous tenure with New York, some of it his doing, but it'd be best to move on. He is producing and very affordable by current standards, so there's a chance he stays under a new coaching staff.
