The Hurricanes are one win away from their first Stanley Cup since 2006, after a 4-2 win over the Golden Knights, at Lenovo Center in Raleigh, N.C., taking a three games to two lead. Game 6 is Sunday in Las Vegas.
Pavel Dorofeyev got out of a scoring funk to net his first of the Final — 11th of the playoffs — to give Vegas an early lead, but Jordan Staal answered to even the game at 1-1 after one. Staal has now scored in every game of the Final, with six total goals.
The Canes then scored the next three goals, two by Andrei Svechnikov on the power play, but Dorofeyev answered to make it 4-2, with 6:11 left in the game. Vegas, though, could not get anything past Brandon Bussi the rest of the way, as the rookie goaltender made NHL history by making his first two career playoff starts be wins in a Stanley Cup Final. Bussi built off a good performance in Game 4 to be even better Thursday night.
My take: The remarkable run for Staal continues. What a force he'll be now that he can feel the Cup so close. Gonna be tough to close it out in Vegas, but Bussi has given the Canes an answer in goal, albeit in a small sample size.
