Former Masters champion Sergio Garcia was reprimanded about his behavior after he hit a poor tee shot on the par-5 second hole at Augusta National during Sunday's final round of The Masters.
Garcia damaged the tee box when he slammed the turf twice with his driver when his tee shot found the bunker. He wasn't finished. He then broke his driver, swinging it violently into a water cooler next to the tee box, breaking the shaft and forcing him to play the remainder of the round without a driver.
Groundskeepers had to repair the tee box damage, and when Garcia reached the 4th hole, he was pulled aside by Augusta National officials and given a formal reprimand for on-course behavior. A second, by course rules, would result in being immediately escorted from the grounds.
Garcia refused to speak about what he was told by the official during his post-round press conference. He shot a final-round 75 to finish at 8-over par.
My take: Sergio gonna Sergio. No need for it, really. It's not like he was in contention when he self-imploded. He wasn't even out of the hole, making it simply a three-shot par-5. He played well to get around the course at 3-over without a driver, but why the rage?
