Ashley Farquharson became just the third American to win an Olympic luge medal, taking the bronze Tuesday at the Cortina Sliding Centre in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, with a time of 3:31.582, missing out on silver to Latvia's Elina Bota by 39 one-thousandths of a second. Germany's Julia Taubitz won the gold by nearly a full second, continuing that nation's Olympic dominance in the women's singles event, winning it 13 of 17 times.
Farquharson is just the second American woman to medal, matching Erin Hamlin's bronze in the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
My take: A huge moment. It's so rare the U.S. is competitive in sledding events of any kind, that it is a real triumph when a medal happens.
