The Busch family released Saturday NASCAR icon Kyle Busch's cause of death. An examination revealed that Busch suffered "severe pneumonia that progressed into sepsis."
Sepsis is a multi-system inflammatory response to severe infection, crashing blood pressure which restricts blood flow to vital organs, causing them to fail. Unless caught very early, it has a high mortality rate.
Nothing further was offered regarding timeline, but it is known Busch was dealing with respiratory symptoms as early as his Cup race on May 10 at Watkins Glen.
My take: Awful. Just awful. Charlotte is a top-flight medical area. He likely got the best possible care but there's often nothing that can be done once organs start failing.
