Stefon Diggs was found not guilty of all charges by a jury Tuesday, concerning an alleged physical assault on his private chef and former lover Jamila Adams, over a payment dispute.
Diggs, currently a free agent, was charged in February with felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault and battery.
The two-day trial saw Adams take the stand both days for direct and cross-examination, with the judge admonishing Adams for repeated non-responsive answers. After the cross-examination, the defense called witnesses who spent time with Adams immediately after the incident, saying she was neither upset nor had any visible injuries. The defense rested, opting not to have Diggs testify in his own defense.
My take: Terrible case to prosecute. reports over the last coupe days said there was no physical evidence of an assault and a financial motive for the victim. Shocking it even got through a grand jury on the basis of an allegation and some exchanges of angry text messages. I wouldn't expect any NFL discipline, so Diggs is now on the market without that lingering over him.
