Wisconsin defender Caroline Harvey has been named the 2026 winner of the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, given annually to the top women's college hockey player.
Harvey, 23, is just the third defender to ever win the award, joining Sophie Jaques (Ohio State, 2023) and Angela Ruggiero (Harvard, 2004). She is second to Ruggiero all-time in career points for a defender, with 200.
Harvey beat out two standout players in Penn State's Tessa Janecke and Minnesota's Abbey Murphy. All three were teammates on Team USA's gold-medal winning team at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, where Harvey tied fellow defender and golden-goal scorer Megan Keller for the most points on the team with nine.
My take: Kudos. She likely will be the No. 1 selection in June's upcoming PWHL Draft, though its a stacked class that includes her Kazmaier finalists. Big boost for that league talent-wise as it looks to gain traction and grow.
