Look at this disgusting action by Chicoutimi Sagueneens player Jordan Tourigny on Christian Humphreys of the Kitchener Rangers in a Memorial Cup game:
Tourigny received a five-minute major and a match penalty. Supplemental discipline will be determined by ... wait for it ... The NHL's Department of Player Safety. Humphreys was forced to leave the game and did not return. There was no update on his condition postgame, with his coach saying only "it's not good."
In a small measure of justice, the Rangers won 3-2, advancing to Sunday's Memorial Cup final by gong undefeated in four-team round-robin play.
My take: DOPS should come down hard (no pun intended) on Tourigny, but that's not their jam. Whatever they do will follow him to the NCAA, with Tourigny committed to Northeastern next season — the NCAA honors supplemental discipline issued to juniors players.
