St. John's advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1999, courtesy of guard Dylan Darling:
That was Darling's only made basket of the game, after four misses, adding one rebound and four assists in 18 minutes.
This was a highly anticipated matchup. For the third time in tournament history, it featured two coaches facing off — Rick Pitino and Bill Self — when each has two national championships.
It's a tough path for St. John's. They will face No. 1 Duke on Friday at Capital One Arena in Washington D.C.
My take: Advantage Pitino. Really a good game, start to finish. I like the Red Storm matchup against Duke, but not against No. 2 UConn or No. 3 Michigan State, the other East Regional duel.
