There's double-doubles and then there's what UConn center Tarris Reed Jr. did against Furman in NCAA Tournament first-round action Friday.
Reed scored 31 points on 12 of 15 shooting from the floor and pulled down 27 rebounds, becoming just the third player since 1960 to score 30+ points and have 25+ rebounds in an NCAA Tournament game. Elvin Hayes accomplished the feat three times and Jerry Lucas did it twice — Lucas is the only player ever to have a 30-30 double-double.
No. 2 UConn won 82-71 and will face No. 7 UCLA in a tough second-round matchup Sunday at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
