Aaron Rai won the PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club in Newton Square, Pa., a Philadelphia suburb, becoming just the second Englishman to win the tournament (Jim Barnes, 1919).
Rai was among a crowded group at 4-under part to start the day, but shot an electric five-under 65 Sunday, to finish nine-under par 271, winning by three shots over Jon Rahm and third-round leader Alex Smalley.
Rai accomplished the feat in style, shooting six-under on his final 10 holes to secure the win, including a tournament-sealing 68.5-foot birdie putt on the par-3 17th:
My take: Kudos to Justin Thomas for posting an early 5-under in the clubhouse after a 65, but Rai was more than equal to the challenge. An epic championship final nine for the Brit and a well-deserved major championship.
