Two-time All-Pro cornerback Stephon Gilmore has annouced his retirement from the National Football League after 13 seasons.
Gilmore, 35, was taken 10th overall by the Bills in 2012, playing five season befor emoving to the Patriots for four. It was in New England where he was named the NFL's top defensive player in 2019, posting six interceptions (two pick-sixes) and leading the NFL with 20 passes defensed. The Patriots won the Super Bowl the previous season with Gilmore locking down the right cornerback spot, making two interceptions and a forced fumble in three playoff games.
Gilmore played on four different teams over his final four seasons: Panthers, Colts, Cowboys, Vikings.
A sure tackler, Gimore retires with 521 solo tackles of his 617 total. In 180 career games, he had 32 interceptions and 149 passes defensed.
My take: He's got the hardware and he's got the numbers, including at least one interception in every season in the league. Definitely a first-ballot HOF candidate.
