Alabama guard Aden Holloway has been arrested on felony charges related to marijuana drug-possession and a tax-stamp violation.
The arrest was made Sunday night after the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force searched Holloway's home, finding more than a pound of marijuana, related paraphernalia and cash. He was taken to Tuscaloosa County jail and arraigned, with bond set at $5,000.
Holloway is Alabama's top three-point shooter and averages 16.8 points per game. The Crimson Tide are the No. 4 seed in the Midwest Regional and will face No. 13 Hofstra on Friday.
Neither the university, head coach Nate Oats, nor Holloway representatives have issued statements addressing the arrest or Holloway's playing status.
My take: Pretty serious. Alabama creatively double-dips on illegal-drug possession with the tax-stamp felony, citing those in possession of illegal drugs for not paying taxes on them, needing to purchase and affix the tax stamps from the Alabama Department of Revenue to the drugs. One to 10 years in prison just for that.
