Tomas Hertl scored with 3:24 remaining in the third period to give the Golden Knights a 5-4 win over the Hurricanes, in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final at Lenovo Center in Raleigh, N.C.
The game was one of alternating momentum. Nikolaj Ehlers scored on the first shot of the game, 25 seconds in, then again 12 minutes later to give the Canes a 2-0 lead, but Vegas responded, scoring the next three, Jordan Staal knotted the game at 3-3 befoer the third period. Brett Howden gave Vegas the lead again, just 1:21 into the third period — his playoffs leading 11th — but Shane Gostisbehere tied it again 10 minutes later.
My take: It's the second straight series Frederik Andersen was shaky in Game 1, giving up five goals on 23 shots, after giving up five on 21 shots against the Canadiens. That can't continue. As far as entertainment value, this was great. Let's get six more of 'em.
