Jessi Pierce, a reporter who covered the Wild for NHL.com, died tragically along with her three children in a house fire Saturday, at her home in White Bear Lake, Minn. She was 37. Her children Hudson was 8, Cayden six, and Avery four. They are survived by Ms. Pierce's husband Mike, who was not home at the time of the fire.
White Bear Lake Fire Department arrived on scene at 5:30 a.m. After the fire was under control to send firefighters into the house, they discovered Ms. Pierce, her children and the family dog, all deceased.
Ms. Pierce covered the Wild for the last 10 seasons and hosted a podcast titled "Bardown Beauties" since 2019, which covered Minnesota hockey at all levels.
The NHL released a statement saying, “The entire National Hockey League family sends our prayers and deepest condolences to the Pierce family on the passing of Jessi Pierce and her three young children. Jessi loved our game and was a valued member of the NHL.com team for a decade. We will miss her terribly.”
NHL.com's editor-in-chief Bill Price said, “The entire NHL.com team is devastated and heartbroken by the loss of Jessi and her children. Jessi’s love of her family and hockey was evident in the energy and passion she brought to her work for us. She was an absolute joy to talk to and work with. She will be deeply missed.”
The Wild said Ms. Pierce was "a kind, compassionate person that cared deeply about her family and those around her. She served as a dedicated ambassador for the game of hockey during her time covering the Wild and the NHL.," in a team statement.
Other messages of condolence came from professional colleagues and one fron Predators head coach Andrew Brunette, who said in part, "I’ve known [Jessi] a long time. She was a wonderful person, loved hockey, loved people, somebody I looked forward to all the time when I would go to Minnesota. It’s a sad day in hockey."
My take: An unspeakable tragedy. May they all Rest In Peace.
