The Maple Leafs have fired head coach Craig Berube after two seasons. New general manager John Chayka said Berube is "a tremendous coach and an even better person," but that the decision "is more reflective of an organizational shift and an opportunity for a fresh start than it is an evaluation of Craig. We are grateful for his leadership, professionalism and commitment to the Maple Leafs organization and wish Craig and his family nothing but the best moving forward."
Berube, 60, led the Leafs to the Atlantic Division title in 2024-25, with 52 wins and 108 points. The team regressed this season due to some personnel changes and injuries, with the Leafs finishing last in the division with 78 points.
My take: New GM, obviously going to be a new coach, especially there. This will keep the torches and pitchfork folks at bay until the draft or until they hire the next head coach they'll hate — whichever comes first.
