George Russell took the pole at the Spanish Grand Prix at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, his third of the season, making Mercedes 7 for 7 on pole in the 2026 F1 Championship.
Lewis Hamilton maintained his recent form, taking P2 for Ferrari by just .056 seconds. Russell's teammate Kimi Antonelli, seeking his sixth straight win, finished P3. Lando Norris his McLaren on the second row in P4, but teammate Oscar Piastri, last year's champion in Barcelona, is P7, sandwiching the Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar in P5 and P6. Liam Lawson (Racing Bulls), Nico Hulkenberg (Audi) and Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) were P8-10.
My take: This is getting boring. Mercedes have the best car. Still. After that it's Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull, but the latter two aren't in winning cars just yet. Leclerc is starting too far back to help Hamilton. Vertsappen and Hadjar are ingood position to execute team racing for a podium, but the car isn't good enough. Once again, mechanical issues will have to play a part for a different result.
