The Knicks have advanced to the NBA Final for the first time in 27 years, and they did it in emphatic fashion, sweeping the Cavaliers, taking Game 4, 130-93, at Rocket Arena in Cleveland. It is New York's 11th consecutive win in these playoffs.
It was another dominant performance. New York led by 20 points early in the second quarter and 19 at the half. Cleveland went on a bit of a run to reduce the lead to 16, five minutes into the third quarter, but the Knicks responded with another run, building the lead to 29 points entering the fourth quarter. It got out of hand from there, the lead cresting 40 points for a portion of the fourth quarter.
The Cavs waved the white flag at the 7:52 mark of the fourth quarter, subbing in bench players — matched by the Knicks — for the remainder of the game.
Since the Knicks trailed Game 1 by 22 points with just under eight minutes remaining, they outscored the the Cavs, 404-315
My take: A drubbing, but another lame effort by the Cavs, who never responded to the Knicks' intensity at both ends of the court. They just did not compete. At one point the fast-break points were 30-3 in New York's favor, finishing 33-9. The Knicks will now try to end a 53-year NBA championship drought and await the winner of the Spurs–Thunder series, currently tied at two games apiece.
