The Canucks announced today that legendary twins Henrik and Daniel Sedin will serve as co-presidents of the organizations, following Jim Rutherfords decision to move into an advisory role. Ryan Johnson, a former Canucks player and general manager of the AHL Abbotsford Canucks, has been hired as the new general manager, a role Rutherford had filled on an interim basis since the team fired Patrik Allvin.
At the press conference, Johnson said the organization will take a thoughtful, long-term approach in reshaping the team and franchise to foster sustained excellence.
My take: Why not? The Sedins are synonymous with the Canucks and are royalty in Vancouver. They also know what it's like to have success in that sweater and the types of players and style that will resonate with the city. Sounds like a retool. They've got some youth to build around, but life is so much easier with elite goaltending. Start there.
