Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice is being sued by former partner Dacoda Jones, who alleges domestic abuse over an 18-month span between December 2023 and July 2025. Jones alleges that some of the abuse occurred while she was pregnant. She seeks $1 million in damages.
Among the allegations, Jones said Rice "grabbed, choked, strangled, pushed, thrown, scratched, hit, and headbutted" her at various times.
Jones' name is public on the filing, having previously posted 14 photos on Instagram on January 7, showing various injuries she alleges Rice caused through his abuse, including bruises, scratches and damaged rooms.
Rice's attorney, Sean Lindsey, released a statement Wednesday, citing an October 2025 affidavit signed by Jones in which she attested she and Rice had a verbal argument but that Rice "did not punch me." That affidavit occurred prior to the current allegations.
The National Football League said it is aware of the allegations and that it is conducting an internal investigation based on its personal conduct policy. The league suspended Rice six games last season after he pled guilty to two felonies related to a chain-reaction crash he caused while racing with a friend on a Dallas highway. Multiple people were injured and Rice fled the scene on foot. He was sentenced to 30 days in prison to be served at a time of his choosing, five years probation and $115,000 restitution.
My take: Have to let it play out, but the NFL is terrible at suspension for domestic abuse. If they gave Deshaun Watson just 11 games for 24 settled sexual abuse and assault lawsuits, what could they possibly give Rice?
