Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen collapsed on the field Sunday during an international friendly against Ukraine in Odense, Denmark. Team doctor Morten Boesen said, "Christian is doing well and walked off the pitch by himself. As I see it, the pacemaker responded as it should. He was briefly unconscious, but regained consciousness very quickly, and we were quickly in contact with him.
"He will now undergo further examinations at the hospital to determine what caused the incident. ... But Christian is doing well, and he asked me to send his regards to all the players and tell them that he was okay."
Eriksen, 34, had to be revived on the pitch almost exactly five years ago — June 12, 2021 — in a Euro 2020 match against Finland. Diagnosed with a heart arrhythmia, he had a defibrillator implanted and has played without incident until Sunday.
Denmark did not qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
My take: Nothing but the best to him. Good to know the device worked and he avoided anything major, from what we know at this point. Scary, but the best possible outcome.
