It's been a tough season for former Cy Young winners this season. First, two-time reigning AL award-winner Tarik Skubal is out up to three months with a procedure to remove loose bodies in his elbow, now two-time Cy winner Blake Snell of the Dodgers is out with the same issue. Though a course of treatment has not been decided, surgery is expected to be the solution.
Snell missed the first six weeks of this season with shoulder fatigue. He made his first appearance this season for the Dodgers last Saturday, rocked for four runs and six hits in three innings, then complained of discomfort in the elbow the following day.
My take: As soon as one hears the dreaded "fatigue" mentioned, or "dead arm." something's amiss and it's only a matter of time until an extended stay on the IL. Here's hoping the best for both players. On the bright side, another Cy Young winner, ol' friend Gerrit Cole, is expected to return to the majors May 27, after Tommy John surgery in March 2025.
