The Hurricanes shut out the Canadiens, 4-0, in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Final at Bell Centre in Montreal and are now one game from the Stanley Cup Final, up 3-1 in the series.
The Canes peppered Habs goalie Jakub Dobeš, who made 39 saves, but a two-minute and 47-second stretch late in the first was his undoing, with Sebastian Aho, Jordan Staal and Logan Stankoven getting shots past him.
The Habs can't win if they don't get shots and they had only five in the first period. They finally responded with 10 in the second period, but down three goals at home they were outshot in the final period ... 19-3.
The series returns to Raleigh, N.C. for Game 5.
My take: Just a clinic by the Canes. They just broke the Habs' will in that final period, really embarrassing them on their home ice. This would be even uglier without Dobeš, who's really showed well throughout the playoffs. It's not over, but it sure feels like it.
