The Hurricanes took a two games to n one series lead over the Flyers after Taylor Hall scored at 18:54 of overtime to win Game 2, 3-2, at Lenovo Center in Raleigh, N.C.
Goalie Frederik Andersen was the real hero for the Canes, turning around a goatish start, yielding two Flyers goals 39 seconds apart just five minutes into the game. He would yield nothing else, making 32 consecutive saves after, and was stellar in overtime when the Flyers finally got to their game and outshot Carolina, 15-8.
The Flyers held a two-goal lead until Seth Jarvis sniped one past Dan Vladar from the right circle at 11:21 of the third period. Vladar had a strong game, too, making 40 saves.
The Flyers will look to improve their power play as the series moves to Philadelphia for Games 3 and 4 — they did score on one, but mustered only three total shots on goal over seven power-play opportunities.
My take: The Flyers needed this one. They hung in it and were the better team in overtime, but it's hard to envision them winning four of five against this Hurricanes team. There was nothing magical about Hall's goal — drive the net, be hard in the paint, follow your shot. Despite Philly's shot total in OT, and several were high-danger, there was little of what Hall did.
