The Magic have fired head coach Jamahl Mosely, after his team blew a 3-1 series lead to lose in seven games to the Pistons, the third consecutive year Orlando had bowed out in the first round.
The failure to close out the Pistons coupled with a biting critique by top player Paolo Banchero did not help Mosely's resume. He took over the team in 2021, after Steve Clifford was fired after three seasons. He went 189-221 over five seasons.
Former Bulls coach Billy Donovan and Spurs assistant head coach Sean Sweeney are considered the early favorites to replace Mosely.
My take: The franchise hasn't been past the first round since Dwight Howard was their center in 2010. Whoever's next has a simple mandate — break that streak.
