The Flyers have acquired goalie Joseph Woll and defenseman Simon Benoit from the Maple Leafs in exchange for goalie Samuel Ersson, defenseman Emil Andrae and a third-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.
Woll, 27, has made 117 appearances (113 starts) for the Leafs over five seasons, posting a 63-43-9 record with a 3.08 goals-against average and .903 save percentage. He will serve as a backup to Dan Vladar. Benoit, 27, is a six-year veteran with the Ducks and Leafs, spending the last three seasons with Toronto. He has six goals and 30 assists in 352 career games, with a minus-40. He is expected to slot onto the third pairing with William Villeneuve.
Ersson, 26, is a four-year veteran — all with the Flyers — with the Swede posting a 65-50-17 record, a 3.01 GAA and an .884 save percentage. Andrae has played 107 career games, scoring three goals with 17 assists and a plus-38. The draft pick is the 85th-overall selection.
My take: Clear cap move by the Leafs, as John Chayka begins to put his slimy imprint on the organization. Woll is a proven commodity with playoff experience. Benoit provides some size and grit. Good deal for the Flyers.
