Lightning head coach Jon Cooper was named Wednesday as the winner of the Jack Adams Award, as the National Hockey League's coach of the year, as voted on by the NHL's Broadcasters Association. It was very close
Cooper beat out Lindy Rupp of the Sabres by three points, 226-223, getting 36 of the 99 first-place votes. The Penguins' Dan Muse was a close third, with 199 points.
My take: This is Cooper's first Adams in nine seasons. There are zero reasons why Rupp shouldn't have won, ending a disastrous 15-year playoff absence by leading the Sabres to the best record in the Atlantic Division.
This is like when they gave Martin Scorcese the Best Director Oscar for "The Departed" — a lifetime achievement award. (Don't get me wrong, I like that movie, but not anywhere near his best.)
