The Knicks and Cavaliers were tied 53-53 early in the third quarter, when the Knicks went on an 18-0 run, never looking back in 109-93 win at Madison Square Garden to lead the Eastern Conference final 2-0.
Jalen Brunson played the hero in Game 1, with a franchise-record fourth-quarter comeback en route to an overtime win. Fellow guard Josh Hart was a catalyst in Game 2, postin 26 points, four rebounds and seven assists. Brunson did his part, with an impressive double-double of 19 points and a game-high 14 assists. New York shot 52 percent from the floor and turned up the defense in the second half.
Donovan Mitchell once again led the Cavs in scoring, putting up 26 points, but James Harden had another tough night on the court. He scored the ball — 19 points — but he was a team worst minus-22 during his 32 minutes on court.
My take: The only good news Cleveland is they now head home for Games 3 and 4. Something has to change in the second half, though, now outscored 125-100 in quarters 3 and 4 and overtime through two games. The Cavs also need someone not named Mitchell to pitch in consistently.
