Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin has demanded to be traded from the organization, according to Canada's Sportsnet.
Larkin, who will turn 30 in July, has five years remaining on his contract, at $8.7 million per season. The deal carries a full no-trade clause, so he will have to waive that.
Larkin was the 15th overall pick by the Red Wings in 2014. He has scored 276 career goals and 367 assists over 11 seasons, and has scored 30 or more goals in each of the last five seasons.
Larkin's dissatisfaction is reported to be with the front office over Detroit's 10-year absence from the playoffs and contentious contract negotiations dating back to 2023.
My take: Wow. Did not see that coming. That blows wide open the offseason.
