Seth Jarvis scored at 3:56 of overtime to complete a major comeback for the Hurricanes, who evened the Stanley Cup Finals at one game apiece, with a 4-3 win over the Golden Knights at Lenovo Center in Raleigh, N.C.
It was not a good start for the Canes as Brett Howden continued to make his case for the Hart Trophy, scoring his 13th and 14th goals of the playoffs to take a 2-0 lead in into the third period.
The Canes finally found the net halfway through the third period, courtesy of Logan Stankoven, and by the time five minutes elapsed on the game clock, they had a 3-2 lead. Mark Jankowski tied it and Jordan Staal put them ahead on the power play.
Vegas was relentless inthe third, however, racking up 14 shots on goal, and Mark Stone, with the goalie pulled, got one past Frederik Andersen to tie the game, setting the stage for Jarvis' heroics.
The series moves to Las Vegas for Games 3 and 4, Saturday and Tuesday, respectively.
My take: It didn't look good for the Canes for the first 50 minutes, but once Stankoven got that first one on Carter Hart, they go the crowd back and seemed to relax and get after it. Vegas is going to make them work for everything. Andersen was better and his performance in the third period needs to be the standard moving forward.
