For much of the game, it appeared the Spurs were going to finally end the Knicks' 11-game playoff winning streak in Game 1 of the NBA Finals at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, leading by 13 points in the third quarter, but the Knicks outscored them 55-32 from that point, en route to a 105-95 win.
The Knicks built an eight-point lead with just under four minutes remaining, but a 9-0 run gave the Spurs a 95-94 lead with 2:14 left. The Knicks responded like they commonly have in this winning streak, running off an 11-0 run to close out the game, with clutch shooting by Jalen Brunson, who became the first Knick since Willis Reed in 1970 to score 30 points in an NBA Finals, and tough defending by fellow guard Josh Hart, who led the team with 15 rebounds and six assists, while forcing four turnovers.
Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs with a double-double of 25 points and 12 rebounds, but strong play by Knicks centers Karl-Anthony Towns and Mitchell Robinson held him to just 6 of 21 from the field, while combining for 20 points and 18 rebounds.
Great game. The refs even called a travel! Seriously, this was very good and entertaining basketball. Anyone who reads this who hasn't watched the NBA in a while, tune in. You'll enjoy it again.
