The WNBA and the WNBPA have sign a term sheet, a tentative agreement in principle to the terms of the new collective bargaining agreement. With it, more is known about particulars.
• The deal will run through 2032 • Maximum salary in 2026: $1.4 million; projected to $2.4 million in 2032 • Minimum salary in 2026: $270,000 to $300,000 (years of service), current contract adjusted; projected to $340,000 to $380,000 in 2032 • Rosters must be 12 players minimum; teams can have two developmental players that do not count against the salary cap • Games per season will increase from 44 to 52 by 2029 • A one-time payment of $30,000 to $100,000 to veteran and retired players for recognition
The teams must meet improved facility standards, increase professional staff and medical staff and services (to include mental-health, pregnancy and family planning), all teams will fly charter, and there are increases in 401K contributions and life insurance, among other benefits.
My take: Straight out of someone's dream journal. A league that's never broken even has pushed in chips it doesn't have beyond a few hands, short on big blinds as it were. It needs a massive turnaround. I hope I'm proven wrong.
