The Brendan Sorsby controversy won't end because he's left Texas Tech to enter the NFL's supplemental draft. Wednesday brought accusations and a response, after Sorsby's agent, Ron Slavin, claimed the University of Cincinnati was aware of Sorsby's sports betting while he was a quarterback there for two seasons.
“If anybody should be questioned or to catch some heat, it should be Cincinnati," Slavin told a Dallas radio station, "because they knew for two years and never said anything and didn’t do anything about it. So that’s the part of the story that gets lost.”
UC issued a pointed denial, saying, “We will reiterate what we have said before: All of our student-athletes receive extensive gambling education multiple times throughout the year, and we would never knowingly play an athlete who violated NCAA sports wagering regulations. If we ever became aware of impermissible wagering, we would report to the NCAA and comply with sanctions.”
My take: This is odd. Questions: Why would Slavin make this up? What is there to gain? If true, the only person he could know that from is Sorsby, but Sorsby lacks all credibility. Round and round it goes.
