The Steelers were active on Day 1 of free agency, making some big moves, joining the Bengals in that regard, but cap constraints limited the Ravens and Browns:
— Browns
Cap space: Still effectively over the salary cap by $1 million, according to Over The Cap
Losses: • Linebacker Devin Bush (3 yrs, $30M, Bears) • Defensive end Cameron Thomas (1 yr. $3.1M, Falcons).
Additions: • Linebacker Quincy Williams (2 yrs., up to $17M) • Guard Zion Williamson (3 yrs., $49.5M), replacing Wyatt Teller
— Ravens
Cap space: $12.1 million over the cap
Losses: • Center Tyler Linderbaum, now the highest paid center in the NFL history (Raiders, 3 yrs,, $81M) • Tight end Isaiah Likely (Giants, 3 yrs., $40M) • Tight end Charlie Kolar (Chargers, 3 yrs., $24.3M) • Defensive end Dre'Mont Jones (Patriots, 3 yrs., $39M) • Punter Jordan Stout (Giants, 3 yrs., $12.3M).
Additions: • Guard John Simpson (3 yrs., $30M)
— Bengals
Cap space: $40.1 million
Losses: • Defensive end Joseph Ossai (Jets, 3 yrs., $36M) • Tight end Noah Fant (Saints, 2 yrs., terms not reported) • Guard Cordell Volson (1 yr., Titans, terms not reported)
My take: Good day for the Bengals, bolstering a terrible defense from 2025. Mafe is coming off a big season with the Super Bowl champs and Cook was emerging into a difference-maker with the Cardinals. Still a long way to go, with Trey Hendrickson going somewhere in free agency, but they have the money to spend.
